"Gurdial Singh Nijar Sadu Singh is a respected lawyer and law professor who will present the case for the people at the tribunal," Bersih co-chairperson Ambiga Sreenevasan told Malaysiakini when contacted yesterday.
The KL War Crime Tribunal in 2011 was an initiative of the Global Perdana Peace Foundation in an effort to criminalise war.
Ambiga added that the five-member panel of the people's tribunal on electoral fraud was almost constituted with a couple more members waiting for confirmation.
However, Ambiga who is former Bar Council president said their names will only be announced when all members have confirmed their positions to prevent interference.
"But we can say they are very distinguished people. The public will immediately recognise them as being independent," she said.
September target
Ambiga said the movement is targeting for September for the tribunal to commence.
"The rules, term of reference and procedures of the tribunal will be released soon.
"We welcome people to come and provide whatever evidence they have to the tribunal," she said.
Once the tribunal is formed, she said it will function independently and Bersih will have no hand in it except as participant to provide evidence to the tribunal.
Though the tribunal has no legal standing, Ambiga had said it will serve as a moral force to investigate the disputed 13th general election.
The opposition had claimed of widespread fraud in the May 5 general election and has refused to accept the results.
They are slated to hold a rally to protest against the alleged electoral fraud dubbed the "Black 505 rally" in Kuala Lumpur despite police warning of a crackdown.
