IPOH: She woke up when she thought she heard firecrackers. However, she saw a bloodied man lying on the street.

It wasn’t firecrackers that woke Chin Tiam Yin up. It was the sound of gunshots fired in front of a restaurant across her house that killed a 25-year-old patron.

“Of late, there have been numerous arguments and fights in the area but this is the first fatal one that I saw,” said the 66-year-old.

In the 10.15pm incident on Sunday, a car stopped in front of the restaurant and a gunman fired at least four shots, killing Jasrafveendeerjeet Singh from Tambun.

Two of his four friends who were having drinks with him at the restaurant were also hurt.

Sarbjit Singh, 28, was shot in his arm while a bullet grazed the ear of 55-year-old Koo Loo Kong.

Ipoh OCPD Asst Comm Sum Chang Keong said two men in a green Proton Wira had stopped in front of the restaurant and Jasrafveendeerjeet walked up to the vehicle.

“As he was nearing the vehicle, the passenger in the car opened fire at Jasrafveendeerjeet and injured the other two victims at the same time,” said ACP Sum.

“Jasrafveendeerjeet died at the Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital where his two wounded friends were also taken to.”

It is believed the gunman used an automatic pistol and fired four shots before escaping.

A witness, who declined to be named, said the car driver had earlier been involved in an argument with the victims.

“The driver left the restaurant but returned shortly afterwards with the gunman,” the witness said.
