The technologically savvy have even altered the Umno vice president’s bio data in online free encyclopedia Wikipedia to mock his credentials. Wikipedia allows users to edit entries.
One fresh Wikipedia entry mocked Zahid’s birth and parentage to suggest his birthplace was a slum and that he has the DNA of an Orang Utan.
Apart from making fun of his parentage, the Wikipedia post also poured scorn on his educational background.
“He has no brain thus his education and qualification are irrelevent,” read the post.
However, as of 2.30pm today, Wikipedia had corrected the post regarding his family background but the details on his academic qualification were changed to: “It is still unclear whether or not he has a functioning brain, thus his education and qualifications are often seen as irrelevant”.
Yesterday, the newly appointed home minister told Malay daily Utusan Malaysia that those who were not pleased with Malaysia’s political system should emigrate to another country.
Zahid also said that Pakatan Rakyat should accept the fact that Malaysia practises the first past the post system, in defence of BN losing popular votes in the general election.
His statement drew brickbats from DAP national publicity chief Tony Pua who said that Zahid’s remarks were a testatement of Umno’s arrogance and hypocrisy.
“Such arrogance and contempt by the newly appointed home minister points to the fact that Umno-BN has no desire at all to seek ‘national reconciliation’ post the 13th general election,” said Pua.
DAP MP Gobind Singh Deo also poured scorn on Zahid’s remarks, saying that the people’s displeasure with the country’s political system does not make them disloyal to the country.
“Let me him (Zahid) know that most of them including me, refuse to leave this country. We choose to stay back and fight for political reform, for what is right. We are Malaysians and it is our duty to push for reforms where needed,” Gobind was reported saying.
