Perak police chief DCP Datuk Mohd Shukri Dahlan said the man, in his 30s, had been operating alone in Alor Star and was detained there following four police reports lodged against him in Taiping, Manjung and Sitiawan last month.
He said the man would distribute pamphlets offering his prediction services.
To make it more believable, the pamplets would include the "testimonies" of those who had supposedly benefitted from his predictions.
"When a client calls, he would impersonate someone else and say the ‘bomoh' was busy and would return their call," Mohd Shukri said.
"He would then call the client back and tell them to bank in a certain amount of money into his bank account.
"Once that is done, he would provide them with his prediction of the 'winning' numbers and then go missing."
Mohd Shukri said the man had made about RM1 million from his scam, enough to own four luxury cars.
Police seized a Honda Accord and a BMW M5 Sport from him and are looking for two other vehicles – a Subaru Imprezza and a Nissan Skyline.
He said police believed the suspect was also involved in cheating cases in Johor, Negri Sembilan, Kuala Lumpur and Selangor.
