The carrier will also start up one of two daily flights to Surabaya on 26 July from its regional carrier SilkAir. The destination is Indonesia’s second largest city and the capital of East Java.
The airline has also confirmed it will be using an Airbus A330 for the flight – increasing capacity to Surabaya by 48%. In respect to Jakarta, SIA is adding its ninth daily flight and will also add its fourth daily service to Denpasar in Bali.
“The Indonesian economy is growing and this has increased demand for both business and leisure travel,” said Lee Wen Fen, SIA’s acting senior vice president marketing planning.
“Indonesia is an especially important market for the SIA Group, as demonstrated by SIA’s new services to Surabaya, our additional flights to Bali and Jakarta, and SilkAir’s new services to Semarang and Makassar. These new flights will provide even more options to our customers for travel to and from Indonesia, as well as for travel beyond Singapore to the many other destinations in our global network.”
The news from SIA has come as part of a joint announcement with its regional carrier, SilkAir, which revealed it would be adding more destinations to its roster.
The destinations, which are subject to regulatory approval, have been named Semarang and Makassar and will take SilkAir’s number of Indonesian destinations up to eleven.
CEO of SilkAir, Leslie Thng commented: “SilkAir is excited to add Makassar and Semarang to our extensive network in this part of the region. We are impressed with the growth of air travel to and from Indonesia and we are confident that the two new services will be well received.”
